The people from this area who voted for George W Bush in 2000 and 2004 need to give themselves a pat on the back for this. Bush campaigned as being opposed to government regulation that would harm businesses and the economy. This is what you get when the "market" rules.
Save a few bucks and foul the earth. The corporations can plunder and ruin –– and then move on. The land and the people die.
We must have regulation and force the companies to own up to the risks and act to prevent the worst effects. And if it will increase the price of the goods then that will have to be passed on to customers. Else we all get stuck with the immense clean ups and the effects that are irremediable.
